Why she chose to become a teacher: I think that I chose teaching at first because of my love for the subject that I teach, but I have come to love the creative aspect of being a teacher, and the opportunity to be part of the lives of so many interesting young people over the years. I really enjoy my students.
Favorite hobbies: Traveling, reading, researching, cooking, walking (especially at MO Botanical Garden and Tower Grove Park)
Something interesting about her: I lived for a school year in Paris as a student and au pair, where I took care of 3 little boys. The parents were professional artists, and my experience was wonderful-- it really changed my life, and I would suggest it for any of my students. I have traveled quite a bit throughout France, and some areas of Spain, Italy, Germany, Belgium, and England. I was born and grew up in the East (Massachusetts and New Jersey), but moved here to St. Louis during high school.
Favorite subject in high school: English... my favorite teacher was an English teacher, and she inspired some of my teaching attitudes.
Most hated subject in high school: Math (I hated it in college, too!)
Why she likes Pattonville: This is a much, much better organized district than the one I taught in previously. The employees are respectful of one another, and there is a lot of variety in the student population. I loved the school I taught at previously and the students I had there, but the district was very unstable.
Quotes that have inspired her: "Nothing more than myself will ever be promised to me, and that amounts to nothing if I don't make something of myself." French Existentialist Simone de Beauvoir
Other interesting information: Ever since I began teaching at Pattonville, I've been very happy here! I spent the first 17 years of my career at Metro Academic & Classical Academy, a small IB magnet school in the city of St. Louis for bright and gifted students, where I was the only French teacher, teaching Pre-IB French 1, 2 & 3, and IB French 4. Metro ranks as the #1 public high school in Missouri in MAP test scores, and has been listed among Newsweek's top 150 American High Schools for several years. It has also been awarded both Gold Star standing, and the prestigious Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence, the highest award an American school can receive. Since coming here to Pattonville, I now also teach Spanish.
